One glance at the guest list, and it is quite evident that the occasion is one of utmost importance – for more reasons than one.
High profile figures like the successful businessman Michael Augoustides (Mikes Sports) coupled with esteemed artists Madeegha Anders and her sister Nuraan Boltman, as well as former football stars and legends like Duncan Crowie, Jomo Sono Banyana coach Desiree Ellis. Other luminaries like Judge Siraaj Desai, Dr Iqbal Surve, and former Protea bowling coach Vincent Barnes will also be in attendance to support the Cape Town and SA football legend Farouk Abrahams’ Gala Benefit Dinner.
This initiative to be held at the Islamia Hall in Lansdowne on Saturday 13th June, was brought about by the Western Cape Legends Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 2025 and dedicated to supporting legends who have contributed positively to society and raising funds for those in need.
In keeping with its mission, the foundation is committed to standing by the legendary goalie and coach in Abrahams during this challenging time after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and not being financially able to afford his costly monthly medical expenses.
Abrahams also started a back-a-buddy campaign to appeal to the “kind-hearted out there for assistance” during this trying time.
The fact that the event has attracted the VIP from across the country, and that it was sold out two weeks ago already, is indicative of Abrahams’ popularity and the impact and contribution he has made during his sporting and coaching career.
“I am overwhelmed by the absolute love, sincerity, compassion, and warm energy around this fundraiser towards my ever-rising cancer medical costs,” Abrahams reiterated to No Bones with Jones . “All the praise to Almighty God for blessing me with wonderful caring family, friends, and football people who have rallied around this event. It is going to be a blast of a night given the excitement in the air,” he added.
The night will also comprise an auction of top class memorabilia conducted by Yusuf Daniels of Living Lekka fame as well as a draw for a soccer kit sponsored by Mikes Sports, including several other spot prizes on offer.
