Played 10, lost 10, eight goals scored and 31 conceded in the process!
These stats are enough to set more than the alarm bells ringing for Ocean View FC. Furthermore, it indicates that the coastal side is destined to lose their Hollywoodbets Third Division status and be relegated back to their LFA.
That said, Ocean View FC’s coach Cliffie Carelse will be hopeful and maintain it ain’t over until the proverbial fat lady sings, despite the odds being heavily stacked against them.
Carelse will probably draw inspiration from the fact they have been in this position before and managed to work their way out of trouble.
But then Carelse has to drive home the importance to his troops of getting a positive result in their next (home) match against struugling Greenwood Athletic which could be a catalyst to change their fortunes in the battle of the basement clubs.
Greenwood, who is a mere shadow of itself this season, is doing slightly better with seven points after their 10 matches, but is also rooted at the foot of the table along with Ocean View.
Greenwood’s coach Warren Lotters pointed out that unfortunately they did not achieve the results they would have liked but believes that they have weathered the storm.
“We have reflected on the past few months and are confident we will turn it around,” Lotters told No Bones with Jones. “Our current log position (17th) is not where we are used to finding ourselves, so the journey continues with 24 games to remedy our situation,” he added.
Lotters, like his counterpart Carelse, would want to compound Ocean View’s misery by collecting maximum points to get their season back on track.
“Sooner rather than later we’ll achieve more positive results,” Lotter stated. “We have done the necessary homework to get that winning feeling going and no better time than doing it in our next game. We are looking forward to a much-improved performance especially by consistently picking up three points.
“Yes, we did not have a good start to 2024 after the break but took the learnings and trust the rest of 2024 will be much more rewarding,” Lotters concluded.
