Fisher’s ‘one for the books” goal highlights derby win

Shahien Fisher, goalkeeper of Ocean View FC describes his freakish goal – from his own goalbox, and into the opposition’s goal post – against neighbours Seaside Spurs as “one for the books.”

Fisher engaged with No Bones with Jones about his most unexpected and most insane experience in football – a goalie scoring the full length of the field.

“Funny enough I scored a similar goal for Ashford (Athletic) when we won the league last season but this one against Seaside is better,” Fisher told No Bones with Jones. “Getting a goal from long range against a quality team like them is one for the books because they have a lot of pro and experienced players.

“We, on the other hand, got a team with a lot of young players from our area who are willing to play for the club and the badge to make sure that Ocean View remains blue,” the shot-stopper added.

The Greenwood Athletic product spent a big part of his youth career at the Retreat-based outfit and had several spells at various Third Division clubs to gain more experience and exposure.

The 25-year-old former Ashford player knows all too well that calm heads are required to ease their current relegation fears following a dreadful run of 10 matches without a single point. Since then, the coastal side have shown some improvement and amassed 10 points from their previous six matches.

This impressive run of late is however not enough to prevent them from being rooted at the foot of the Hollywoodbets Third Division table.

Their derby victory for the team managed by Leon O’ Malley’s, together with the club legend Cliffie Carelse, will go a long way and is more than just about bragging rights.

“We are on a good run and got some confidence back,” Fisher stated. “We need to remain focussed and grounded after some positive results. We are not even halfway, so there are plenty of matches left and points to play for. The confidence is back and we will fight till the end,” Fisher concluded.
