Greenwood Athletic head coach Lionel Miller (pictured) opened up about his admiration for Diadora FC, who won the Hollywoodbets Third Division league title in their debut campaign last season.
Miller, a league winner himself with Greenwood back in 2016, has singled out one aspect he would love to emulate with the Green Machine in the upcoming 2025/’26 season.
Diadora, under the tutelage of head coach Zain Alexander and his assistant Sardick Barends only tasted defeat on four occasions from their 32 matches which included seven draws.
Needless to say, Miller did a fantastic job when he guided them to a third position albeit eight points off the pace. Pony as Miller is called, will hope they hit the ground running this time round to replicate the blueprint Diadora has shown to be successful in the cutthroat Third Division.
“If there’s one thing about Diadora that I admire, it’s their consistency,” Miller revealed to No Bones with Jones. “They had consistency throughout the season. They would sneak and grind out a goal. They would crunch out wins and if not, a draw, but they would not want to leave with less than a point, and they were consistent in doing that,” said Miller.
“The funny thing about it is that it’s not rocket science, you know. We’ve done it in the past as well but I think last season’s display from Diadora has just awakened that drive for consistency if you know what I mean,” he explained.
Miller has assembled a very decent squad with a big emphasis on the youngsters as he believes in promoting them through the ranks. “But I’m keeping my cards close to my chest and not revealing any names at this point,” Miller further added. “What I can tell you is that the players I brought in want it just as bad as everyone else. So, the hunger is there and it will be another interesting season for sure,” Miller concluded.
