The battle for top spot in Stream A of the ABC Motsepe League intensified after five rounds of action, with Hanover Park FC and FN Rangers locked on 11 points at the summit.
This follows after both Hanover Park and Rangers recorded 2-2 score lines against Inter City FC and Ikapa Sporting respectively.
Hanover Park holds the edge thanks to a blistering plus 11 goal difference and a league-leading 15 goals scored.
Just one point behind, Young Bafana are breathing down the leaders’ necks on 10 points, while Inter City remain firmly in contention in fourth place with eight points. It must be noted that City’s 2-2 draw against the log leaders should give them great encouragement going forward.
The mid-table battle is equally fierce, with just three points separating fifth-placed HBUFC from tenth-placed Santos FC, proving that every match and every goal could be the difference between climbing the table and slipping down. Santos coach Gerald Stober was undeniably delighted to bag back-to-back victories.
Another coach that will be over the moon is Cape Town Spurs’ Nasief Morris who registered their first win in emphatic style when they walloped Ubuntu FC by 5-0 at Ikamva on Saturday.
At the bottom of the log, Saxon Rovers will be buoyed by their first win of the season after they defeated Seaside Spurs by 3-1 at the Royal Road on Saturday to record their first ever win in the Second Division while Harambee FC are anchored in the last position still searching for their first point of the campaign.
