Silence from CDFA Bigwigs as Outbursts by Salt River’s Gerum Mars KO Final

It is a pity that both Cape District Football Association president Wayne Jones and Salt River Blackpool president Iqbal Kasker have chosen to waive their right of reply.

Their silence follows questions posed by No Bones with Jones regarding the unsavoury scenes that unfolded after Saturday’s CDFA Super League Knock Out Final between Salt River Blackpool and Wolverhampton FC.

Wolves deservedly won by 2-0 and prevented Blackpool from completing a league and cup double.

At the centre of the storm was Blackpool head coach Nabeel Gerum, whose explosive reaction towards the referee overshadowed what should have been another milestone in an otherwise successful season. Witnesses described a furious outburst that saw Gerum lose control, charging at the official and unleashing a barrage of profanities before being restrained.

While emotions often run high in football, such conduct cannot be dismissed as mere frustration. It’s believed that this is not the first this season that Gerum has landed himself in hot water. Serious questions must now be asked about discipline, accountability, and the example being set – especially for a club preparing to represent the CDFA at the Safa Cape Town Third Division Playoffs.

The incident is particularly disappointing given Gerum’s success this campaign, guiding Blackpool to a league title and possible promotion. Instead of plotting a path to the Third Division, he now faces scrutiny over behaviour that has cast an unnecessary shadow over his team’s achievements.

Championship‑winning coaches are expected to lead from the front. On this occasion, however, Gerum’s biggest challenge may not be the playoffs, but repairing the damage caused by a moment of madness he will now surely regret.
