ABC Motsepe League club owners are up in arms after Safa Western Cape confirmed the two streams for the 2026/’ season – but without the expected pre-season meeting, consultation and engagement with the member clubs as stated in the notice prior.
Furthermore, clubs have not yet received any response to their previous correspondence sent on 31 May 2026. Two months later, there has been no feedback or acknowledgment from the province.
It’s with this in mind that there’s also a request to start the league a bit earlier taking into account that clubs need to know the road ahead regarding the fixtures, and to allow those clubs operating like a pro structure, clubs to plan and set up their budgets accordingly.
Disgruntled club owners and administrator are of the they view this latest stunt by the province as yet another breach of trust – especially after Safa WC has assured and created a platform for the clubs and the Mother body to work more closer – just like they did when province needed the clubs to expedite their league fixtures to the back end of last season due to the NFD playoffs which needed to take place.
Now, when it was the province’s time to reciprocate, they pulled a fast one leaving the clubs in the dark and much to their irritation and disappointment.
It was expected that clubs wanted to have input on the make of the two streams in order to ensure fairness for everyone involved, but the custodians had other ideas.
The main recommendations were to have a conventional draw with an equal and fair split amongst the participating clubs from the various regions like teams Cape Town, Central Karoo, Cape Winelands and Overberg.
