New Hope for ‘Super Mario’ as rumours swirl that he has left Silver Spurs after 40 years to join SP Swifts

It’s been rumoured that Silver Spurs co-coach Mario Tito has parted ways with the club after four decades.

No Bones with Jones has deduced that the 46-year-old could be joining the ABC Motsepe League newbie Sea Point Swifts (Hope FC) in search of new challenges and to broaden his horizon after Tito was spotted engaging with the club’s hierarchy during their away fixture against Santos on Wednesday evening.

Our website reached out to Tito, who declined to comment. However, the president of Rygate LFA, Abdul Tajoodien stated. “There is no official letter of resignation yet,” Tajoodien confirmed to No Bones with Jones.

If and when this happens, it could be the ideal move for Tito, who can be described as one of the most exemplary figures in local football, to further grow his coaching career. Needless to say, Tito, who holds a Caf-C Licence, will add immense value to the Second Division outfit as he’s been around the proverbial block and knows the local football scene.

This will indeed be a huge loss for Spurs, who one feels did not always give Tito the respect he deserved at the Silvertown-based club.

Tito took charge of Spurs’ Premier League side in 2022 and went on to guide them to success in the Knockout at the Rygate LFA. He also had several coaching stints with Spurs’ Third Division franchise, which started in 2017 as their goalkeeper coach. Last season, he was tasked to save his beloved club from relegation, which he managed to do.

This season, Tito was thrown in the deep end as a co-coach along with Kaashief Lewis, and the duo managed to somewhat ease Spurs’ relegation fears, lifting the club from the second-last position (17th) to just above the relegation zone (15th).

Tito, known as Super Mario, was assigned as the team manager of Safa Cape Town’s Bayhill team in 2023. The Safa Cape Town selector was also in charge of the region’s u.15 academy for the Peter Groepies tournament, but fell short in the semifinal.

The Silvertown-born coach was also in charge of Spurs’ under-16 side, who won the league and knockout with players like Hanover Park FC’s Toughier Claasen and Ethan Garu Felix, who now plays for FN Rangers in the Motsepe League.

He was also victorious as head coach for the under-21 team that won the Green Smile tournament a couple of years ago.
