Shaun Pietersen, newly appointed executive chairman of Pretoria Callies, has played his hand and it seems as though he means business in this season’s Motsepe Foundation Championship First Division.
No Bones with Jones can now confirm that Pietersen has roped in a top European coach in the Italian Fabio Lopez to help achieve his ambitions with his new First Division outfit he acquired with his business partners.
The 51-year-old Lopez is of Spanish descent and has served as a scout for Serie A- sides like Atalanta and Fiorentino.
Lopez started his football career as a goalkeeper with AS Roma but was forced into early retirement with a knee injury.
A source close to the club has confirmed the news, adding that Pietie Soprano, as Pietersen is known, has left no stone unturned in his new venture.
“Moses Malaba has also been appointed as president with Zane ‘Zizou’ Ryklief who has a dual role as the Technical Director and assistant coach,” the source added.
“They have invited about 15 players from Cape Town from both Motsepe and First Division calibre to come and give it a shot.
“Pietie is taking his business empire to a whole new level and he wants some talented players from Cape Town with him,” the source concluded.”
