Safa Competitions boss nips Stellenbosch Ladies to partake in National Playoffs

Stellenbosch Ladies FC is probably fuming but they only have themselves to blame as they have bought sweet little lies!

One can also argue that their desperation to attain top-flight status in the HollywoodBets Super League, has blinded their ability to think straight and rational.

This comes after Moremi Klip, Competitions manager of Safa National informed the Cape Winelands-based club that they aren’t in a position to proceed with their postponed matches at the National Playoffs which started on Tuesday and ends on Friday (12 December) at the Vaal University of Technology in Gauteng.

Stellenbosch was recently declared the winner to represent the Western Cape by Safa WC’s chairman Tankiso Modipa, whilst a legal dispute between his organisation and the 14 Sasol League clubs is still ongoing.

“In light of this directive, we are compelled to comply in order to avoid any risk of being in contempt of court,” Klip said in a statement. “Additionally, there is a pending intention from the clubs to pursue arbitration regarding the related matters. It is therefore necessary that the arbitration process be completed,” he added.

Furthermore, the status of Stellenbosch is also being questioned because there was no provincial play-off and they only played in a 10-team league instead of a 12-team league required by the Regulations. Safa Cape also suspended 14 clubs for an entire season.
