Safa CT has just released its official list of top goal scorers – and after five rounds, it comes as no surprise that YMO FC’s goal machine Rushan Abrahams tops the charts with 11 goals – which is almost all of the side’s tally of 12.
According to ‘Roo’, he wants to break the 38-record achieved by Darron ‘Billy’ Omaticus for Jamestown United in 2021, by becoming the first player to reach the 40-barrier tally.
“Look, I had a very disappointing debut season with YMO in the last campaign, so I told myself that I need to make it up this season,” Abrahams stated to No Bones with Jones. “So, that is why I’m so focused and started on a good note. This puts me in a position to not only break the record, but to go past the 40-mark, that’s my aim,” he added.
I have said it in the past, and I will say it again – ‘Roo’ or ‘Aguero’ as he is referred to, should play at a level higher up against more structured and disciplined players – and this is no disrespect to the Third Division.
Look, for example, Omaticus, who for some time was banging in goals galore during his time at Jamestown United. This is also why FN Rangers’ street-smart coach, Arreshaat Daniels, didn’t hesitate to rope him in, and three seasons later, Billy is still adding value.
Now, some will say ‘yeah, but Billy is a former pro player at Santos, but that is beside the point.
In retrospect, pro players don’t always find the cutthroat leagues in the amateur ranks a happy hunting ground, as it is physical and hard. The protection of the match officials isn’t always forthcoming as well.
So, let’s see which Motsepe League will be willing to allow Rhoo to test himself higher, and if he can replicate in the second Division what he currently does in the Third Division, dubbed as the ‘Graveyard’ league.’
