Safa Cape Town will unveil and reward their top achievers at their year-end function at the Mayoral Banquet Hall in the Civic of Cape Town on Saturday (15 November).
This ceremony – that usually has the tongues wagging for reasons right and wrong – is only for the chosen ones!
Those who sing for their supper, clap when asked to… and those who do not rock the boat.
That said, the evening shouldn’t be dampened by who is present and who is not, but rather the standout players for the season.
No Bones with Jones understands that quite a few LFA’s have – intentionally or unintentionally – not submitted their respective nominations for the Player and Coach of the Year categories.
And while some LFA’s are still bemused about the compilation list of the region’s two highest accolades, no one can feel aggrieved about the nominations of Hanover Park FC’s striker Abulela Notywala and that of Vasco da Gama’s head coach Elton Swartz, who are vying for the player and coach of the year, respectively.
Notywala’s eye-catching performances and his goal-scoring prowess helped Hanover Park FC bag the Coke Cup title, while Swartz’ ability to lead Vasco to the league title at the Cape Town Tygerberg LFA, coupled with winning promotion to the Regional Third Division and the Sport Pesa tournament, should unanimously give him the nod for the Coach of the Year.
