Seaside Spurs’ Ignite Cup back with a bang and TV crews… Greenwood eager to defend their u12 youth title

Seaside Spurs’ marquee event on their football calendar, The Ignite Cup for the under 12 age category, is back after a break last year due to field upgrades at the Ocean View Sport Complex – and this year it will be live on SuperSport schools.

This event, which runs from 11 to 12 April at the Ocean View home ground, is also made possible with the support of Spurs’ Spur Steak Ranches and the technical sponsor Vecchio.

According to the club’s executive member, Earle Cloete (pictured), they decided to focus on one division with the intention to grow the number of teams in 2027 and from there the growth plans are “as big as they can dream.”

“Hopefully by 2030 the tournament will be able to send a select team to an international tournament which coincides with the vision 2030 of the club to become a professional outfit,” Cloete explained to No Bones with Jones.

”We look forward to the second edition following the break in 2025 and this tournament once again reaffirms the clubs investment in not only the ABC but our junior structures as well,” he added.

Participating teams such as PSL outfits like Stellenbosch coupled with top academies such as Ubuntu, will give upcoming teams such as Rising Stars and the heart of Cape Town football community teams such as Lavender Hill and defending champion Greenwood Athletic the opportunity to test themselves against the very best – maybe even to get scouted for that matter.

“Having clubs such as Stellenbosch coming to play in our community is exciting to our kids and being able to say I played on TV/App is just a bonus. Our LOC is ready and we hope to make it a success.” Cloete concluded.
