For the record, it will be the sponsor Engen and not Safa Cape Town that will have the final say on the host venue for this prestigious under-18 tournament for boys – and ladies.
“They have made it crystal clear, hey,” a source close to the sponsor revealed to No Bones with Jones. “They don’t even want any games at night due to the safety aspect, you know. People must travel back home and there are risks involved.”
This is the latest news communicated to our website hours before the closing date (24 April at 16:00) for applications to host the finals which will take place from 8 to 9 June.
The region sent out the stringent criteria last week to all LFA’s which was communicated to them by the sponsor.
“Look, this does not mean that the sponsor will be obliged to select candidates only from the list of applications,” the source further added.
“It all depends on the sponsor and if they are happy if all the boxes are ticked. You can rest assured that they will look at everything,” the source concluded.
The host venue will be announced on Friday and our website has heard through the grapevine that the South Peninsula LFA – who hosted the event last year – is one of the preferred venues whilst the Cape District Football Association’s William Herbert should not be ruled out – but then again stranger things have happened, who knows?
