Judging by how Sardick Barends and his ‘accomplice’, Cheslyn Tajoodien, landed the head and assistant coaching positions respectively at Silver Spurs, it appears that this duo are on a mission.
But don’t take my word for it, it’s always better from the horse’s mouth and this is what Spurs’ Victor Tajoodien had to say about this unexpected ‘appointment.’
“To tell you the truth, they (Barends and Tajoodien) approached the club citing their reasons why they would be suitable candidates for the vacant coaching positions,” Victor explained to No Bones with Jones. “We looked at his (Barends) CV and after discussions it’s clear he is familiar with how things operate and bought into the culture of the club and for what we stand for.
“Look, it’s clear he’s got a good understanding with Cheslyn who is also a born and bred Silver Spurs. So, they seemed to be a good fit. Like I said they reached out to us which tells me they are serious and on a mission, you know,” Victor concluded.
Spurs narrowly escaped relegation on the last day of the season, but with “Balla” and “Giggs” as Barends and Cheslyn is affectionately known, at the helm, Spurs’s supporters can without a doubt look forward to a more promising 2026/’27 season.
This will also be a perfect challenge for the former Diadora FC assistant coach in Barends to spread his wings and further grow and improve as a coach. Balla had great success with Diadora during his stint and also guided Goulburn Athletic to a Coke Cup final a couple of seasons ago but fell short to Diadora.
