One FC vice-captain Shalon McGear has broken his silence on his departure from Hope FC after helping the club win the ABC Motsepe League Second Division title and secure promotion last season.
Despite being among several players released following the club’s success, the experienced defender insists there are no lingering hard feelings
“Look, It was a bitter pill to swallow, but we won’t sulk and we’ve obviously moved on,” he told No Bones with Jones. “That’s all in the past. We learnt from the adversity and moved on.”
The 31-year-old defender has since enjoyed immediate success at One FC, recently helping the club lift the Nedbank Cup after defeating Ammar Soccer Academy, completing a league-and-cup double in the Second Division.
McGear credited the club’s leadership and coach Dylan Deane for the team’s impressive progress.
“Credit must go to the management and coaching staff. They must know that we are grateful for the opportunity we’ve been given and happy to contribute to the growth of the club. We know exactly what we’re here for and what needs to be done.”
One FC currently sit fourth in Stream B, 10 points behind the leaders, but with three games in hand due to their cup commitments.
Should Deane’s men collect maximum points from those fixtures, they could quickly emerge as genuine title contenders.
