Hanover Park FC chairman Rieduwaan is on the brink of witnessing yet another Coke Cup title…
That’s off course if they can overcome an equally threatening rival in Saxon Rovers, who cannot be discarded but has to settle for the underdog in Saturday’s Coke Cup Final in the Athlone Stadium.
The team form Downberg Road in Hanover Park has featured in a record number of finals and Anthony has witnessed them all which uncluded winning seven titles – four of this came with Premier United while HP has three titles as well as quite a few semifinals under the belt.
Now, on a side note, another historic feats awaits their head coach, Ralph Hendricks who’ll be contesting his fourth Coke final and has won his previous – two with Premier and last season with HP.
With this in mind, Hendricks’ chairman, Anthony, has on the eve of the showpiece, penned the following:
“On behalf of Hanover Park FC, the Brasse Vannie Park, I would like to thank SAFA Cape Town, Peninsula Beverages and everyone who played a role in making this occasion possible. Your support enables our communities to celebrate football at its very best and provides opportunities for the next generation to dream, grow and succeed through the beautiful game.
“I would also like to congratulate our opponents, Saxon Rovers, on reaching this prestigious final. I acknowledge my friend and fellow chairman, Mr Alan Roman, with whom I have served on various football structures over many years. Saxon Rovers’ Castle League title and promotion to the ABC Motsepe League are achievements worthy of recognition and celebration.
“Hanover Park FC and Saxon Rovers share more than a rivalry. We share a rich history built on resilience, community pride and the determination to overcome adversity.
“Those of us who were around before 1994 will remember the challenges under which our football was played. I recall the old Saxon Rovers facilities, where one side of the field benefited from floodlights while the other sometimes relied on car headlights during training. Looking back, one cannot help but ask how much has really changed.
“While progress has certainly been made, many clubs on the Cape Flats still struggle with inadequate facilities, poor lighting and limited resources. Yet despite these challenges, our communities continue to produce exceptional players, administrators and clubs. That is the spirit of the Cape Flats. We may not always have the same resources, but we possess something equally powerful: passion, resilience and determination. We refuse to allow our circumstances to define our future.
“Both our clubs have produced outstanding footballers and countless unforgettable memories. More importantly, football has created friendships and bonds that have lasted a lifetime. The stories of clubs like Hanover Park and Saxon Rovers must be preserved so that future generations understand the sacrifices, struggles and achievements that laid the foundations on which they stand today.
“Today’s final is about more than a trophy. It is a celebration of two proud clubs, two proud communities and a football heritage that continues to inspire.
“To the players, coaches, officials and supporters, embrace this moment. Play with passion, compete with respect and represent your communities with pride. Of course, we all want to win, but let us also recognise the significance of this occasion for football on the Cape Flats.
“Finally, let football continue to unite us. At a time when society is often divided, football reminds us that talent, dedication and character know no borders. Whether we are players, coaches, referees, administrators or supporters, we achieve more when we work together than when we stand apart.
“If football can unite us in a stadium, it can help unite us beyond the touchline as well. On behalf of Hanover Park FC, I wish both teams everything of the best. May the best team win, may football be the ultimate winner, and may we continue using this beautiful game to build stronger communities, create opportunities for our youth and bring people together,” Anthony’s message concluded.
