Pressure and expectations are high for Trinnies

Trinitarians FC’s capitulation at the business end of last season has since increased the pressure and expectations for the upcoming Third Division campaign of Safa Cape Town.

Therefore, fans and opponents can expect that this outfit from the Northern Suburbs LFA will come with a bigger onslaught for promotion to the Second Division.

It was evident that coach Zaheer Simons’ Trinnies faded badly during the business end of the season when they ended fifth – this after they had gone toe-to-toe with the pacesetters for a large part of the second round.

Simons and his troops can take some consolation in the fact that they put together a good run in the Nedbank Cup where they lost in the regional playoffs.

Trinnies’ controversial loss to the eventual champion, Junction Rovers, on their home ground in the latter stages also ended their dreams and chances in the title chase last season.

Given what Simons has delivered in his first season, the tongues are wagging that he should be given the role again to build on the platform and structures that he has put in place.

Much of this will depend if the project on the table will be beneficial for both the coach and the club.

It is expected that the club’s executive will convene in the coming days to discuss the way forward regarding the coach’s future.

According to Simons, he is not at liberty to discuss the matter. “Look, all I can say for now is that I’m still with the club and we need to finalise matters.

“If the project is right for me to grow as a coach, then by all means. But for now, I’ll have to meet with management first to get clarity on the way forward,” Simons concluded
