‘Super Mario’ in the driving seat in race to coach Spurs

Silver Spurs chairman Victor Tajoodien is rather tight-lipped regarding his new coach for the upcoming Third Division campaign of Safa Cape Town.

Tajoodien did however indicate that his coach will be someone “local and within the ranks” of the club but did not want to divulge any further details.

Our website can now confirm that those two candidates are Franklyn “Tollie” Davies and “Super” Mario Tito.

Our website has also been informed that Tito, who holds a Caf C-licence, seemed to have the edge over Davies in the two-horse race for the hot-seat at the Silvertown-based club.

The announcement for the new coach will possibly be made within the coming days after the two candidates submitted their respective presentations and proposals.

This automatically rules out candidates like Kashief “Dopey” Lewis and Gwappie Esau who have already put in their CVs for the vacant Spurs-post. Lewis is a former Silver Spurs player and is currently the coach of top Rygate side Hazendal United.

It is believed Tito will follow-up Cheslyn “Giggs” Tajoodien, younger brother of Victor, who blew hot and cold last season as head coach of the club.

Giggs, like so many before him, fell short in the race for League honours. Needless to say, the Spurs holds an unwanted record in the Third Division as the longest-serving team without winning the league or promotion.

Surely, no one needs to remind Victor about this. His chopping and changing of coaches in recent seasons bordered not only on desperation but also a burning desire to break the curse of more than 3 decades of Third Division football.

Tito could prove to be the answer for Spurs this coming season. Tito has been involved with the club since the tender age of eight and his loyalty cannot be questioned.

Should Tito land the job, it will be important that he receives the full support from management – on and off the field and be allowed to express himself.

Perhaps it is written in the stars that Tito will be the coach that leads Spurs to the promised land – who knows?
