It’s all systems go for the resumption of Engen Knockout Challenge

It appears that the controversy and drama that played out at the Engen Knockout Challenge in Langa, is something of the past.

This follows the decision by the organisers to resume the Cape Town leg of this prestigious football event on 2 and 3 September at the Rooikrans Sports Complex in Grassy Park.

Heavy torrential rainfall left the fields at the Langa Sports Complex waterlogged and only one day of soccer was completed.

Some clubs need to officially start their group campaign as they still haven’t kicked a ball due to the tournament being postponed.

Duncan Crowie, the tournament’s technical director, says they are excited about the resumption of the biggest and most popular youth tournament in the country.

“It is a pity what happened but it is very important that we carry on and that we put the players first,” said Crowie.

“I can assure you that the players are still very excited and are looking forward to the tournament just as they did the last time. As you know, the Engen is the number 1 under-18 tournament in the country for both boys and girls.  So yeah, I’m looking forward to it as well,” Crowie added.
