Simons Says he has “Unfinished Business” with Trinnies

Trinitarians FC head coach Zaheer Simons (pictured) admitted that he has “unfinished business” in the Third Division of Safa Cape Town.

That is also one of the driving factors as to why Simons is back at the helm at Trinnies after they fell short at the business end of last season which prompted the coach to reconsider his future

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Trinnies mentor last season as he led them to Nedbank Cup glory on the local front, only to fall short at regional playoffs on the West Coast last season.

But it was the challenging and exhausting league campaign that got the better of the 33-year-old Simons after going toe-toe with the big guns in the league.

The Uitsig based-outfit gave a really good account of themselves and was for a large part of the season embroiled in a four-team race with the eventual champions, Junction Rovers, Silver Spurs and Greenwood Athletic.

The former Kuils River coach, who considers himself a “seasoned campaigner” in this league, hinted to No Bones with Jones after the season that his future with the club hangs in the balance.

This notion was dismissed when Simons, who holds a Caf B-licence, recently confirmed that he is ready to give it another go as he has some personal goals to achieve as well.

“Look, to be honest, I do feel that I have unfinished business in the league,” Simons said.
“I am a young coach but I also see myself as an experienced one in the league as it will probably be my fifth season in this competition. I have been with Kuils River prior to joining Trinitarians.

“So, I do see myself as a seasoned campaigner in this league. And yes, I do have unfinished business. One of my goals as a coach and as a head of a technical team is to win this league and that is a personal goal, I set myself.”

“This will be our fourth season in the league and I think it will be our most crucial one to date as we’ve been here long enough now to know the ins and outs of the league. I definitely think we can give it a shot with the right formulas that we want to assemble.”

Simons is of course under no false pretence of the challenges that await him for the new season.
“I’m telling you this is going to be one hell of a season. I mean the teams are really putting in the effort to get proper, qualified coaches in.

So yes, I definitely think it is going to be a tough season. To the people of Uitsig and the club itself, you should just rally behind the team. We are not always going to be sunshine and roses, but we must try and act as one and be more supportive of the team.

“For now, it is a bit here and there, but we are starting with our prep for our ‘Unders’ (under 23 players) next week,” Simons concluded.
