Safa Cape Town in collaboration with Fifa has contributed to a successful and fun-filled day when the Regina Coeli Primary School hosted their annual inter house sports day at the Rygate Sports Field on Tuesday.
This Catholic School, which has been in existence for more than 60 years, is this year’s recipient of Fifa’s International Football for Schools project whereby 200 soccer balls get distributed to schools around the world.
Safa Cape Town, under the leadership of Bennett Bailey, is the first to kick start this project and has identified the Catholic school, situated in Belgravia, as the first recipient.
It is expected that the other provinces in the country will follow suit in due course.
Bailey has commended Fifa for their efforts to capacitate which is the “genesis” of sports.
“This is just to give them that basic piece of equipment which is needed to play the beautiful game of football,” Bailey stated. “Now Safa has rolled this out to all the provinces and regions.”
The acting principal Joy Louw had this to say: “Thank you to the parents who assisted, whether it was supervising learners or being a scorekeeper, or just the support by attending the event – your contribution is highly valued and appreciated.
“A special thank you to the Tajoodiens who arranged for us to have the use of the sportsfield, as well as arranging for the school to receive a donation of soccer balls from Safa Cape Town.
“Your contribution to our school is highly appreciated. A final thanks to the learners for their attendance and participation. You make us proud,” Louw concluded.
