Hanover Park FC chairman Rieduwaan Anthony has informed No Bones with Jones via an official statement that he is deeply sorry to FN Rangers and their captain Chad Robertson for the actions witnessed on Saturday afternoon that “soured” the moment at Downberg Road Sports Complex during the Hanover Park FC and FN Rangers FC ABC Motsepe League fixture.
“Our committee reacted immediately to diffuse the situation as tempers were high from this electric fixture,” Anthony said in the statement. “Immediately an exit gate was unlocked for the players and managers to be in a safe zone. There was also a dedicated parking area only for the FN Rangers players and supporters which was also well secured.
“For Hanover Park FC this is the first incident of its kind and condemn behaviour of this manner on our premises. Although one person is not a registered member, the president will be set and the club will take a firm stance against this person who will not be allowed onto our premises for future home fixtures.
“For any other person that should act in this manner at future fixtures they will be immediately removed from the premises. As for the registered member, our Disciplinary Committee will be meeting soonest and the outcome of this hearing will be published.
“This is a game that brings our Hanover Park community closer together and these types of actions are not welcomed. Yours in Football…R Anthony, Hanover Park FC Chairman,” the statement read.
Tempers amongst players flared up shortly after Anthony’s ABC Motsepe League outfit was beaten 2-1 by FN Rangers in an epic battle, but nothing serious transpired and the situation was swiftly difused – or so everyone thought.
Seconds later one of Hanover Park’s alleged members assaulted the Rangers stand-in captain Robertson when he was struck with the fist over his head.
Meanwhile Anthony’s counterpart from Rangers, Darryl Roelf, pointed out that he is not in a position to comment at this stage.
“Look, I wasn’t there to be quite honest,” Roelf told our website. “I escorted my captain (Shane van der Westhuizen) to hospital who had a cut above his right eye and needed stitches, so I don’t know what transpired,” Roelf concluded.
