After having their wings clipped in the first two games of the Hollywoodbets Third Division, Crystal Palace has finally taken off and is now soaring pretty high.
This comes after the Manenberg-based outfit secured their fourth victory in a row following a 2-1 (away) win against Greenwood Athletic at the Solo Street astroturf on Friday evening.
Goals via Rameez Maree Zaid Simpson secured the three points for the visitors.
The Eagles, as Palace is known, has scored 10 goals in their previous four six and conceded seven which indicates is an indication that they need to tighten up in defence.
Palace’s coach, Bradley August (pictured), who is assisted by another old head in the game, Goodwin Lewis, will be well aware of this. The duo has in the past shown that they have what it takes to not just ruffle anyone’s feathers but to attain success.
According to August they will not get ahead of themselves despite the solid start to the campaign.
“Need I remind you it is still early days,” August told No Bones with Jones after their victory over Greenwood.
“So, as pleased and satisfied as we are with the results in the previous four games, we will not get overly excited and ahead of ourselves. Remember this league is a marathon and not a sprint,” said August.
Meanwhile his counterpart from Greenwood, Warren Lotters, described their loss in front of their die-hard fans as another “bad day at the office.”
The Green Machine has been struggling of late and could only manage one win from six matches – including two draws and three losses.
Lotters attributed their inability to find the back of the net as one of the contributing factors to their recent woes.
“Goals win games and unfortunately we have not been taking our chances,” Lotter stated. “In all the games thus far we have created more chances than our opponents but that does not win you games. It is something we will have to sharpen going forward.”
Lotters emphasized that there is no need for panic at this stage despite the slow start.
“There are still 28 games left with three of them before the break. For us it’s back to the training ground as we focus on the next game and try to improve game by game,” he concluded.
