Despite being win-less after six games with no points on the board, there is still no panic in the Ocean View FC camp, says manager Leon O’ Malley.
The coastal side succumbed to its sixth straight loss following a 1-3 defeat against Vasco da Gama on Friday at the Ocean View Sports Complex. “Look, we will come good – sooner or later,” O’Malley pointed out.
“It is relatively early in the season so we need to stay calm and focussed. The way we are losing our games, with our midfielders – I don’t know if they tire too quickly, but they don’t close the gaps and that is where they attack us and score goals from,” the manager added.
There were expectations that the presence and influence of the new recruits from Ashford Athletic – Caleb Lategan, Shahien Fisher (goalie), Kieran Petersen (striker), Caleb Williams (defender), along with Cafda FC’s Dale Maree and Diego Paulse – would result in much-needed points, however, this was not the case.
O’Malley reckons that these newbies need a bit of time to adjust in their new environment.
“The step-up from LFA football to the Third Division is not easy and players still need to find their feet,” he further stated.
“The Third Division is high intensity compared to LFA football. I must say that our (new) goalie Fisher was quite good in the poles seeing that it was his first game.
“Then our young striker Kieran pulled a hamstring and we brought up Caleb Lategan who did quite well too but they still need to click together with the rest of the Ocean View players.
Caleb Williams didn’t get a show but I think he will get it this weekend he’ll get his chance,” O’Malley concluded. Ocean View, who occupies the last position, travel to the Johnson Road Sport Field on Saturday where another tough encounter versus Silver Spurs awaits.
