‘Sandpit’ could give ‘small-fry’ Spurs upper hand against log leaders CT City

Cape Town City’s desire and expectations to break their Silver Spurs-hoodoo in the Hollywoodbets Third Division will not be made easier when they travel to “The Sandpit” on Friday evening.

Silver Spurs have decided to move their home matches from the Hickory Road Astro to Johnson Road – coming to be known as “The and Pit” by visiting teams.

City will struggle to play their brand of carpet football and things will get even worse if the wind picks up on Friday evening. But this could all count in Spurs’ favour and help the Rygate-based club to maintain its impeccable record over the academy outfit.

The home side has enjoyed great success with eight wins from their previous 10 meeting which dates back to the 2018/’19 season while City has found the going tough with their travels to the so-called ‘Ghetto land’

Since the 2018/-19 season, City’s could only muster two victories – a 4-3 win (2019/20) and a 2-1 win last season with both victories coming on their Malta Park home venue.

Needless to say, Spurs’ last victory, an emphatic 5-0 drubbing over the influential counterpart, will also be fresh in the memory of the academy outfit.

This fixture has also dished up a goalfeast since the 2018/’19 season with 44 goals scored averaging four goals per game amongst the teams. Thus fans can expect anything but a 0-0 stalemate.

Spurs’ manager Abdul Tajoodien and his coaching staff will hope that Spurs, who have been slow out of the starting blocks with 15 points from 10 matches, will use this fixture to kickstart their season into overdrive.

Meanwhile, No Bones with Jones can confirm that Spurs have strengthened their squad with three recruits in Anees Latief (Jamestown United), Ashlin Ebden (Polokwane City) and Wanderers FC’s Meveleni Matanga (pictured).

Tajoodien pointed out that what they have recruited can’t even be mentioned with what clubs like Saxon Rovers and Hanover Park have that’s training with them.

“Ons is small fry,” Tajoodien jokingly said. “But I am confident that they will add value to the squad.”
