Time for CDFA to come clean and put clubs first – or face the prospect of becoming a rebel league

If the Cape District Football Association (CDFA) has any concerns or strain of moral fibre left for its constituents and clubs, then it should do the right thing by coming clean and abiding by the rules of the Mother Body Safa Cape Town.

The CFDA and Safa Cape Town have been at loggerheads since the Motherbody held its AGM last year and it was disrupted by the delegates of the Wynberg-based LFA.

The CDFA president, Wayne Jones and another member, Ivan Williams, have since been found guilty by a disciplinary committee. The CDFA cannot challenge this outcome as the time period has lapsed already and that outcome stands.

Safa Cape Town is currently formulating its closing arguments following the recent hearing at the Rygersdal FC base in Rondebosch on Wednesday evening where it was agreed between the two parties that all or most of the evidence was read already in the previous matter.

The CDFA is arguing why they are not guilty while the region is basing its argument on the LFA’s character as the latter has already indicated that it will not comply with the Jones/Williams matter.

This is also stated on record and forms part of Safa CT’s argument that they have shown a disregard for the initial outcome by not complying. The LFA has 14 days from today to reply to SAFA-CT charges.

There is a possibility that the region could ask for expulsion which could potentially have serious repercussions for the CDFA’s affiliates.

The questions could also be posed to the DC’s chair about what Safa CT can do should the CDFA not comply with the sanction. So, what happens if the CDFA chooses not to come? Are they to form a breakaway rebel league as it was rumoured last year?

Will the LFA stick to their guns with the second outcome? Just as they did with the first outcome by not complying. This could have dire repercussions for especially the clubs who then could become collateral damage which will not only be unprecedented, but also a sad state of affairs.
