Safa Cape Town has sent out a strong message that unruly behaviour amongst rival fans will not be tolerated and does not have a space in the local football arena.
The Mother body of Cape Town football has found both Jomos Power and FC Hout Bay guilty and slapped them with a R5000 fine respectively payable before the end of March 2024 after bringing the game into disrepute.
That coupled with the fact they will have to forfeit the points as well for this particular Hollywoodbets Third Division ‘derby’ that was played on 27 January 2024 at the Saxon Sea Sports Complex in Atlantis. Both clubs were also ordered to collectively pay 50 percent of the sitting costs.
Tempers flared and scuffles broke out between the opposing supporters as verbal confrontations became physical which led to mayhem forcing the ref to call off the match for safety reasons.
Following the respective guilty verdicts, representatives from both clubs bemoaned the outcome and were in contact with No Bones with Jones regarding the decision taken by the region’s DC.
Safa CT also made a couple of recommendations such as members and representatives of clubs should familiarize themselves with not only the notice but also the charges brought against them. Additionally, Safa CT should send the notice to the LFA and the clubs involved.
Jomos’ Lonn van Graan (pictured) and James Wichman from FC Hout Bay were unified in their disapproval of the outcome.
“No, I am not satisfied with the decision,” Van Graan admitted to No Bones with Jones. “We were fined against Matroos at their home ground as well,” Van Graan further stated.
“Safa is making money out of our clubs that cannot appeal if they are aware it costs R10 000 to appeal.”
FC Hout Bay’s chairman Wichman was also left unimpressed labelling the hearing a ‘farce.’
“Besides the fact that they (Safa CT) need to be seen as serious about issues like that, it is also our reputation which I think we had two previous ones, and that was probably aggravating for FC Hout Bay” Wichman pointed out.
“Likewise, for Jomos which has two pending cases for this season and you never hear the outcome, it is a confidential matter. But like I said in my closing arguments football should win here.
“I don’t know if I shot myself in the mouth. We are still going to face Jomo and it shouldn’t be seen as a gang fight and ‘I’m going to wait for you on my pitch, you know.'” Wichman added.
The passionate and astute football administrator has also informed No Bones with Jones that he along with the secretary Lionel Louw have stepped down from their respective roles at the coastal club.
Our website has also been informed that the former coach Pierce Summer has parted ways with the club after following up Tom ‘TT’ Tobi in the hotseat.
As in previous seasons FC Hout Bay, who is currently in the 17th position, is again staring down the barrel of the gun and will have to fight relegation to avoid losing its status for next season.
