Trinnies youth tournament getting bigger and better

The Trinitarians u.14 Easter tournament is starting to gain recognition and popularity beyond the borders of the Northern Suburbs and the Western Cape.

This youth spectacle, which is running for its 15th consecutive year, has now attracted teams from as far as KwaZulu-Natal for the event which kicks-off on 30 March to 1 April at the Symphony Park Sportsfield in Belhar.

The tournament director Martin Julies says this is very pleasing and serves as another validation of the impact of the Easter spectacle.

“The positive thing is that they also play with MySafa  (registration) cards and makes the (fairness) process easier,” Julie explained to No Bones with Jones.

This tournament was dominated by Ajax Cape Town in the past and Cape Town Spurs in recent years.

Players such as Spurs’ new kid on the block in their PSL team, Luke Baartman once upon a time played in the tournament as well which is an indication of the calibre of talent participating in the tournament

According to Julies they have structured the competition as such to ensure that strength meets strength when it comes to the business end of the tournament.

“We have seeded the teams Like Vasco da Gama (2013 champion) and Juventus who played in the semi-finals last year and kept them apart in different groups,” Julies added.

“Juventus beat Vasco but lost out (0-1) to CT Spurs in the final. But there was very little to choose between the two teams which tells me that the gap has definitely gotten smaller between the amateur sides and the academies,” Julies concluded.
