Santos takes Safa CT to High Court – and wins: good news for CDFA

It appears that Safa Cape Town’s victory over the Cape District Football Association (CDFA) was short-lived.

This comes after the already soured relationship between the Mother body and the CDFA took another twist when one of the latter’s affiliated clubs, Santos, took the Mother body to the high court – and won their case.

Santos went to the High Court to compel Safa CT to register their under-14 players for die annual Trinitarians Easter tournament as Safa insisted that registrations should be done via Mr. Gerald Don, the administrator.

Honourable Judge Salie, who presided over the matter, ruled in Santos’ favour and interdicted and restrained Safa CT from refusing to process player registrations from clubs affiliated to the CDFA.

Furthermore, Safa CT was ordered to complete the registration cards by no later than 7am on Saturday, 30th March, as Santos play their first game at 09:00.

During the same hearing the High Court ruled in CDFA’s favour stating that the administration be lifted with immediate effect.

Adv. Vernon Seymour (pictured), who represented Santos, said this ruling sends out a very strong message with justice being served.

“Young must govern people properly,” Seymour told No Bones with Jones. “You cannot trample on people’s rights and think that you can get away with it.”

Safa CT and the CDFA have been at loggerheads in recent months following the suspension of its president Wayne Jones and one of its members, Ivan Williams, which also led to the CDFA being placed under administration.

Former Safa Western Cape boss Gerald Don was subsequently appointed as administrator and assisted by Rygate LFA’s secretary Badroeniesa Jordaan.

It is safe to say that this is not the be all and end all on this matter and one can expect more twists and turns.
