Is the fat lady singing for Woodlands already . . . or is there still hope?

It ain’t over until the fat lady sings….

So says Woodlands United coach Jonathan Mufumbi about their quest to save their Hollywoodbets Third Division status this season.

With four games remaining, the odds are heavily stacked against the Mitchells Plain-based outfit which is anchored in the second-last position on the league table.

Mufumbi is under no illusions that it will be a tall order but has urged his players to remain positive in the face of adversity.

“For sure it’s going to be a tough challenge to get points in our remaining games but we are still in it and we have to keep on believing,” Mufumbi stated to No Bones with Jones. “If it is any consolation we have been in this position before last season so we are well aware of what is required,” he added.

Woodlands will certainly play as if their lives depend on it and will require as many points as possible from their remaining games against Matroosfontein (away), JL Zwane (home), Goal50 United (away) and Crystal Palace (home).

The Woodlands mentor has conceded that it is a rather unfortunate position to be in but pointed out the reasons for their current woes.

“Our consistency has let us down during the season,” he further added. “Furthermore issues like the change of coaches, lack of proper training venues, players leaving coupled with injuries are all contributing factors, you know.

“But I told the boys to keep on working and give their best and take it one game at a time. Only once the league is finished will we see if we have done enough.

“We came close to a win on Friday night but conceded in the most frustrating way by the interpretation of the ref that decided to give the other team the chance to draw the game,” Mufumbi concluded.”
