Coming off the back of a fair amount of criticism leading up to the Engen KO Challenge, it has to be said that well done to the region for a flawless and well-run tournament – as it should be!
Furthermore, it is also safe to say that the Erica Park Sports Complex can be unofficially considered the new home of prestigious tournaments for under 18 boys and girls due to the fantastic work done by Safa CT’s General Secretary Reyaad Joseph along with his partner in crime, the HOD of Youth Gordon Crumpton.
The positive testimonials and endorsements from the participating clubs are a validation thereof.
There is no doubt that the amicable partnership with Safa CT has raised the status of the Engen KO Challenge which is also a national event.
It will again be Stellenbosch FC who will represent the Mother City at the nationals in a couple of weeks’ time after they successfully defended the Western Cape title for the second consecutive year beating CT City 4-2 on penalties in the final, while Cape Town Roses were crowned as the ladies’ champion.
With a smooth sailing and successful 2024 edition done and dusted, it is safe to say that the creases between the petrol corporate and the footballing Mother body have been ironed out and that football was the winner.
At least now Cape Town’s football public has two flagship events on the football calendar that provides a proper platform to showcase the best talent in the City – the other is the Bayhill Premier Cup.
