Seaside Spurs are no longer the new kid on the block at the Two Oceans LFA.
This title is now bequeathed to the LFA’s latest addition – Cape of Storms FC – that is spearheaded by the former Ocean View FC duo, the O’ Malley brothers, Leon and Marco.
It’s clear as daylight that the O’ Malleys and the Ocean View hierarchy could not sing from the same hymn sheet.
It must be said that indecisiveness shown by the Carelse clan, Brent and Cliffie who both at one stage had coached the team, played the O’ Malley’s hand in a way to break away to form a new club which includes the under -8. -10, -12, -14, -16, -18 along with two senior teams, Premier and First division outfits.
It remains to be seen if this move by the O’ Malleys will be positive for the broader football public as a fragmented football community rarely succeeds.
But Leon, who previously served as manager of the relegation-threatened Ocean View FC, stated that when things are done the proper way and for the right reasons, it is sure to succeed.
“We started this club because you get your best player and average player and coaches just want to use the best then forget about the other players.,” Leon explained to No Bones with Jones. That’s when they start to lose interest and stay away and don’t want to play any more.
They fall prey to all kinds of things. That’s why we started trying to rebuild the youth’s confidence.
“It’s a bit hard starting a new club without financial help but we are having small fundraising efforts to try and help and few members taking money out of their pockets because of the growth in numbers of youngsters coming.
“We started by each member giving a R100 for subscription fee and with the help of our cake sale we managed to raise more funds as we have tried numerous companies for sponsorship but no luck so far. So, if anyone is willing to support us, give me a call on 084 994 6428,” Leon added.
Meanwhile, Ocean View FC’s fate hangs in the balance. The coastal side will hope and pray that the Hollywoodbets Third Division champion Vasco da Gama wins promotion at the playoffs next month in order for them to retain their status.
