Desmond Crowie would be the perfect fit for Antalyaspor

While everyone is pondering and watching with bated breath how the new proposed structures and formats for both the Second and Third Divisions will look like, there are still other pressing matters which are for now definitely worthy to note.

Such as the head coach vacancy at Antalyaspor Cape Town FC following the sacking of Dylan Deane a couple of weeks ago.

No Bones with Jones understands that Antalyaspor’s hierarchy, such as the owner Justin Paulsen and his right-hand man Bevan Dicks, as well as Sean Ferrier, who serves in an advisory capacity, are all hunting for a new coach.

And again the name of the Maties FC mentor Desmond Crowie (pictured) has popped up.

Our website reported a while back that Crowie had been approached to spin his magic at Antalyaspor for their long term vision.

No Bones with Jones understands that the conversation with Crowie was that his mandate will be to focus on the development.

There has been a shift to building up structures and not making winning the league for the Motsepe League team their top priority.

This point was further driven home when their most experienced player, captain Mario Booysen, parted ways with the club. So, too did his brother David as well as coach Carlo Krieling.

Judging by this one can deduce that gone are the days where the club will carry a substantial wage bill just for immediate success, but rather one where baby steps are taken to reach their goals – and Crowie seems to be the perfect candidate for the project.

I mean Crowie’s track record speaks for itself, highly qualified as a coach and a professional by day. Needless to say he was a fantastic footballer with a sweet left foot.

“Dessie” as Crowie is referred to, was also part of the memorable Santos squad which included legendary players. So, as a player he has been there and done that…

Crowie, who also coached Cape Town All Stars in the First Division some time ago, spent six very successful seasons in the Cape Winelands where he won the ABC Motsepe League’s Nedbank Cup Regional title with the Maties FC turning them into a formidable unit. Not to mention his successes with the Varsity side.

Crowie’s development and grooming of the future stars has also seen the rise of players like Mervin Boji and Glen Hahn have come through Crowie’s hands and become household names for their respective PSL and Motsepe league outfits.

Well, with Antalyaspor without a head coach and Crowie’s ‘availability’ the marriage looks like a formality and one that on the naked eye looks like a perfect fit – but that can only happen if Antalyaspor allows Crowie free reign to what he was headhunted for!
