Hands off our president (Wayne Weitz) – for now!
These chants are echoing from Metropolitan LFA after indicating that they will stand in solidarity with Safa Cape Town’s suspended Treasurer and their beleaguered president Weitz – until the facts prove otherwise.
A lifelong member at the Met Linsday Davids (pictured) says they will not throw Weitz to the wolves, despite the fact that the Mother Body has already placed him under “precautionary suspension” following a thorough preliminary review conducted by a Committee led by the Chair of the Finance Committee, Ms Siviwe Tyali, into “alleged breaches.”
Davids, who subsequently met with Weitz last week regarding his future at the LFA, suggested that come hell or high water, they will support him.
“We took a decision last week already that we are standing by him,” Davids, an executive member of Bluegum United stated to No Bones with Jones.
“You must prove to me that he did something wrong. Don’t run to the newspaper,” Davids added.
When Davids was probed on the way forward should Weitz be found guilty for breach of the region’s code of conduct, he replied: “Well, there are rules and regulations that we must follow – but while Safa has a problem and he is not found guilty yet – we will stand by him until that can be resolved.
“We are not just interested in one side. We say you are our president and that is it, bring us the facts,” Davids added.
Meanwhile, Safa Cape Town president Bennett Bailey suggested that there are issues from their side regarding the suspension of Weitz that need to be emphasized.
Bailey reminded the public that the press release issued by Safa CT stated clearly that Weitz’s suspension is about “issues of governance”.
“No one said there is money missing,” Bailey said to No Bones with Jones. “Okay, if we don’t find out there is money missing then…. but that is not our issue.
“Our issue is a matter of governance. We work on two things: Who owes us, and who do we owe – it is as simple as that. And that is the principles of accounting, a debit and a credit, that is all we work on. In the last week we paid out about 10 claims that were still outstanding from December,” Bailey concluded.
