The peace in the Joemath household – for the last month or so – has been anything but peace and harmony.
Also spare a thought for father, Shane, president of Yaknocka SC (pictured centre), whose side has drawn a multiple former champion and one of the favourites in Hanover Park FC for a Round of 64 clash.
This fixture was scheduled for three weeks ago already but was postponed due to inclement weather.
Shane’s predicament is more intriguing with the fact that his eldest son, Craig (pictured left), plays for Hanover Park FC while his youngest (Caleb, pictured left) is on the opposite side with “Daddy’s” team.
So, the battle of the Joemath brothers will surely take centre stage in the Round of 64 should the competition resume this coming weekend – weather permitting of course.
Shane, a hard-tackling midfielder in his playing days for Sea Point Swifts, has made no bones about the fact that he cannot remain neutral in this instance as his allegiance lies with his “baby.”
“Never…I’m against boeta Waan (Rieduwaan Anthony) on this one and my eldest (son),” Shane said to No Bones with Jones. “Craig is very professional and committed and I have the utmost respect and love for Rieduwaan Anthony and Hanover Park, but this time I’m with my coaches and my club.
“This is actually not the first time they (Craig and Caleb) are up against each other as brothers, but I’m sure both of them will give it their all. Good luck to them both,” he added.
It is clear that Joemath, a very humble individual by nature who grew up in Bonteheuwel, is undoubtedly a proud father that couldn’t ask for more from his boys.
“For the two of them still playing, where we come from, they could’ve easily turned out otherwise,” Joemath further added. “But with a mom such as my wife, it’s impossible to get distracted. She is forever pushing them to be the best they can be.
“I’m just grateful that they are both still part of Yaknocka SC as coaches…Craig being the U12 Coach and Caleb the U10 Coach. At Hanover Park was the first time they actually played together in one team besides at Yaknocka,” Shane concluded.
