He came, he saw, he conquered – in record fashion.
Yet, he has absolutely nothing to show for his efforts. Perhaps it will be said that this will probably be done further down the line.
But, for now, it is a slap in the face according to Silver Spurs’ Rushan Abrahams, the Golden Boot winner in this season’s Hollywoodbets Third Division campaign of Safa Cape Town.
Abrahams moved from Oriental Gunners at the Rygate LFA to try his luck with Spurs in the cut-throat Third Division – and he certainly did not disappoint, ending up breaking Darron Omaticus’ record goal tally of 36 goals by two ending up on 38.
However, Abrahams revealed that he is saddened by the fact that his achievement wasn’t rewarded yet with the new season soon to kick off.
“That is why the pro teams in Cape Town don’t know that we in the amateur leagues exist, you know,” Abrahams said to No Bones with Jones.
“We are not honoured and given the respect that we deserve. I am sure I am not the only player feeling this way.
“You know, there are players and coaches who put in a lot of effort and make huge sacrifices, but most times it’s all in vain.
“South African football as a whole should do more for their amateur structures. I mean, it is Division football and another step closer to the PSL.
“We also have dreams and aspirations to make it big in football but nothing gets done in our structures and that’s why very few of us get a break,” Abrahams added.
Aguero, as Abrahams is known for his prolific goalscoring ability, is currently on the books of Hanover Park where is also being assessed for a possible step up to the ABC Motsepe League.
“I also wanted to challenge myself in another league but most importantly, it is to stay fit and sharp. I haven’t decided on my future yet but a new challenge is always good,” Abrahams concluded.
