BMW originally stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke AG in German.
But in Cape Town and its surroundings, it is jokingly referred to as “Bruinman se worries” (Brown Man’s Worries).
And how true it has been that a 1980’s three series box-shaped BMW is now the centre of controversy in football circles between Santos boss Goolam Allie and the club’s legend Keith “Keita” America.
Allie claims that America, who was recently appointed as head coach of Spurs’ Hollywoodbets Third Division side, must first return his ‘beemer’ before Allie will issue his clearance.
No Bones with Jones can reveal that America apparently took the car to a mechanic who is said to be an acquaintance of Allie’s.
It is alleged that the mechanic did not want to release the car as there was an outstanding amount to be paid – but this all happened many many moons ago.
This is much to the dismay of Silver Spurs manager Abdul Tajoodien who has vowed to take the matter further as it is hindering his club’s progress with the new season looming.
In fact, Tajoodien, also the president of the Rygate LFA, has already followed the due processes when he wrote a letter to the Cape District Football Association (CDFA) requesting that the Santos chairman handover the player’s clearance.
According to Doeltjies, as Tajoodien is known, the letter serves as communication between the two entities.
“We have now given Santos seven days and we have also given the LFA the seven days to respond to the matter that we will now escalate to Safa CT and as per the constitution Safa CT will have to issue the clearance now,” Tajoodien explained to No Bones with Jones.
“The matter of property between Goolam and America is something Santos will have to sort out by using the legal channels that’s available to them,” Tajoodien added.
America has been roped in by Spurs four months ago and become an instant hit at the club.
His development work will also be massively beneficial to the club – and Tajoodien is too aware hence he wants to tie up America – things could get really ugly and lifelong friendships are no more – all that over a very old BMW.
