Clayton is massive for Manenberg, says coach Bradley as Palace continue its shopping spree

It’s absolutely massive for our football club – it will also lift the image of Manenberg and its football.

So says Bradley August, coach of Crystal Palace, following their marquee signing of former Bafana Bafana defender Clayton Daniels on a season-long deal.

“Clayton’s (long) career speaks for itself,” August told No Bones with Jones. “I have no doubt he will add value, especially to the younger (unders) you know. He will be instrumental to guiding them as he comes with that professional outlook which I hope will rub off on the young guns.

“Hence we’re delighted to have him. This is absolutely massive for the club and the community of Manenberg. Through sport and football we can change the image and stereotypical mindset people have of Manenberg,” August added.

No Bones with Jones recently reported that the 40-year-old veteran defender – who’s had a very successful career with top PSL clubs like Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United amongst others – was training with Palace to assist them with their new venture in the Second Division.

The former Riverside Rangers product sealed it officially yesterday when he signed on the dotted line.
The Manenberg-trio of August, his assistants, Goodwin Lewis, Peter Kirsten and former Jomos Power and FC Hout Bay coach, Tom Tobi, have a wealth of experience in the football industry.

Another newcomer to the technical staff is the conditioning coach Alex Aries – also known as the “Link.”
Arries will double up as the go to guy – for both the coaching department as well as the club’s investor.

Palace have indeed shown they not about to muck around in the Second Division – especially after raiding Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town for seasoned campaigners such as Reyaaz Koopstadt, Cole Schoeman, Shalon McGear, Clayton du Plessis, Dimitri Fredericks, as well as Roy-Keane Avontuur from Stelllenbosch FC.

This comes after Palace acquired the Motsepe League status of Shaun Pietersen’s Ikapa Sporting a couple of weeks ago while Palace sold their Hollywoodbets Third Division status to YMO St. Lukes.

ON A MISSION: Palace’s technical team from left is Alex Arries (conditioning coach), Bradley August (Head coach), Peter Kirsten (assistant coach), Tom Tobi (manager) and Goodwin Lewis (assistant coach – absent).
