Young Idols chasing Coke Cup glory of 2015 and hope luck will be on their side

Young Idols head coach Kaylem Mentoor is convinced there are signs (of luck) which indicate they could be well on track to repeat their success of 2015 in this season’s prestigious Coke Cup Knockout competition.

Idols is a community club trying to make a difference and to change the stigma attached to Manenberg.
‘Pepza’ as Mentoor is affectionately known, has navigated his side through the exhausting David vs Goliath cup competition against all odds progressing to the last eight.

The former Ajax Cape Town product has especially singled out the” tough and lucky” victory over neighbours and rivals Tottenham Hotspurs that has given them an added belief that they have what it takes to go all the way.

“To be honest our minds weren’t really set on (winning) the Coke Cup but see how far we have come and that has made us realise that we can maybe do it. The signs are there as the results went our way. In our previous game we scraped through thanks to our keeper who saved a penalty with two minutes to go!

“That is what I realise, like hang on, maybe here is some luck for us to carry through to the finals and to go all the way. Because those things don’t just happen they happen for a reason is what I’m thinking.

Idols face another community club in Bluegum United in the quarterfinals to be played at the Du Noon Sport Complex on Sunday.

Mentoor is fully aware that Bluegum will not be intimitated by the fact that they know what it takes to attain success in this competition.

“Look, it doesn’t matter who you come against, you must give the opponent the necessary respect,” Mentoor added. “Look, nothing is guaranteed and things might not turn out the way we want it to but if we do our job and stick to our plan then I think we can definitely get it, you know,” Mentoor concluded.
