Pressure mounts on UCT Ladies before first match at National Playoffs

With a proper meal in their bellies, all thanks to the deputy mayor of Knysna, the UCT Ladies can now at least prepare more positively for their opening match of the Sasol League National playoffs against Ezemvelo from KZN on Wednesday (today) at 15:30.

This comes after the Western Cape’s Sasol League champion has been plagued by setback after setback which will be interesting to see how it affects their performance on the field.

The latest off-field drama has put the spotlight on both the hosts, Safa Western Cape, as well as Safa Cape Town. That between the two bodies they could not ensure the accommodation and safekeeping of one football team, is mind boggling.

How between these two entities they could not have secured a venue in closer proximity raises suspicion about the relationship between the two bodies.

Safa CT’s president Bennett Bailey reassured that the team are now sorted and raring to go.

“I managed to speak to both Kamal Sait, coach of UCT and Siviwe, who is on the LOC,” Bailey explained to the media.  “We advised Siviwe, our REC Member, to move closer to the Team because they are in need of assistance. We also advised both to keep us posted and advise what needs to be done, if the situation does not improve. For now, the team is getting ready to do battle. Ons hou duim vas,” Bailey added.

That said, UCT Ladies will still have to do a job against the champions of KZN  – and one individual who’s had way more than what he’d bargained for when asked to take charge of the team, is the interim coach, Sait.

He was forced to step in after UCT’s coaching staff of Ahmed Parker, Shaquille Williams and Mark Kapman were involved in a car accident on route to Knysna. This will also be Sait’s second attempt with the UCT Ladies side after falling short last season in Bloemfontein.
