The fate of Safa Cape Town’s disgraced Treasurer Wayne Weitz will only be decided at the next Annual Congress scheduled for February 2025.
This comes after the disgraced Safa CT delegate found no closure regarding his future following a REC meeting last week where it was decided that Weitz was to be kept under suspension until the next sitting.
Furthermore, a motion was put forward that the Metropolitan LFA president be removed from his position as Treasurer of the Mother Body.
Safa CT subsequently released a statement that confirmed his suspension has been “extended indefinitely.” The release further stated: “Following a thorough discussion of the report, the REC unanimously resolved that Treasurer Mr Wayne Weitz, not be reinstated to his position. The reasons for this decision will be presented at the Annual Congress scheduled for February 2025. Consequently, Mr Weitz’s precautionary suspension has been extended indefinitely,” the statement read.
All good and well that the region is adhering to its rules and regulations, but deep down there are members that are uttering how wrong it is and the injustice done unto Weitz who has been muted since the drama unfolded a couple of months ago.
To think that never in this whole matter was Weitz given an opportunity by the region to share his version. It was very cold and unceremonious treatment Weitz received from the organisation he has served with great pride and responsibility… And it has come down to this?
Only until one of Safa Cape Town’s hierarchy is put through a witch hunt – like the one its treasurer Weitz is experiencing – only then will they realise the injustice and shame in their silence.
This is unfortunately the sad reality of the region’s REC who are heavily divided on the Weitz-saga that has been dragging on for way too long.
It was expected that Weitz would be reinstated following the region’s REC meeting last week, however a group of five to six REC delegates heavily opposed this notion which was tabled – despite the fact that the majority share a common belief that Weitz is being given a raw deal.
How the 30 odd-plus members did not vehemently oppose the motion to relieve him permanently from his position, is rather surprising – the silence to counter this move was apparently deafening?
Not to mention the final report, which was not issued to members but shared with them via a projector due to fears that the info might be leaked, could only confirm that Weitz has transgressed pertaining to protocol and governance issues – that’s it.
It was also based on this that it was suggested that Weitz be reinstated but this was unequivocally shot down by a small group of opposition who went for the jugular calling for Weitz’s head.
Now it is up to Congress to decide – but it is well known that Wetz’s fate has already been decided in the corridors.
The sad part is the fact that Weitz’s ‘comrades’ are not in favour of what is playing out, yet they are not opposing this injustice and making their voices heard as well. Let’s not rock the boat and stand up for what is right and wrong.
If that did not happen back then when these comrades were in the trenches then we certainly would not be here today. Where did we go wrong?
