Sacrifices paying off as De Webers’ Rovers start biting back – thrash Palace in Heideveld

The hard work and sacrifices Junction Rovers made over the festive period is now paying off, says head coach Chrissando de Weber.

De Weber’s comments come off the back of an impressive 5-2 drubbing of the high-flying Crystal Palace at the Heideveld Sportsfield on Saturday afternoon to climb to eighth on the log and ease their relegation fears.

Goals from Mustapha Moses, Lushin Johannes, Adeeb Triegaardt, Ashton Peterson and Mikhael Geldenhuys humbled the star-studded Palace while two consolation goals from Cole Schoeman were of academic importance for the Manenberg-based club, but it added some respectability to the scoreline.

Needless to say, Junction certainly started 2025 with a bang with three wins from three matches after they beat Cape Town Spurs 3-2 (away) as well as setting up a record score of 14-0 over Diaz-Leeds in front of their home fans two weeks ago.

According to de Weber he needed to fine tune some stuff and needed to make a few adjustments in order to turn things around. ‘De Webs’ as he is called added that it is important for Junction, who are competing for a second season in the Motsepe League, to use their impressive victory over Palace a catalyst to resurrect their season.

“We must now try and keep the momentum,” De Weber told No Bones with Jones “I must add that so far so good for 2025, but we had to work hard through December and early January, you know.

“That is now paying off. We want to climb as high as possible on the log and try to avoid relegation. But one game at a time,” De Weber concluded.

Junction will have their work cut out for them when they host Andrew Pequeno’s Vasco da Gama this weekend.
