Bad habits on the playing field over the years are probably the main reasons why Marc Jonas has not reached his full potential or playing in the PSL as yet.
So says his coach at Diadora FC, Zain Abrahams, who rates his 20-year-old attacking midfielder very highly and predicts a bright future for him.
Diadora snapped up this talented youngster from his boyhood club Silver Spurs at the beginning of the season. Jonas is regarded as one of the most experienced ‘Unders’ in this league – and he has not disappointed scoring seven goals from the midfield thus far.
According to Abrahams, who was formerly on the books of Matroosfontein FC and Valhalla United, Jonas has become integral to his team which is also setting the pace thus far in the Hollywoodbets Third Division – not too shabby for someone who is enjoying his first head coach stint with a club making its debut in this proverbial ‘graveyard’ league due to its robust and cutthroat nature.
Despite Abrahams being one of the younger and somewhat inexperienced coaches in this league, one would be rather foolish to dismiss Abrahams’ assessment of Jonas as rubbish.
According to Abrahams he was delighted when Jonas made his return with a bang after a four-week layoff due to a knock on the knee as they are now nearing the business end of the season with 11 games to go.
”I must admit that it was good to see him back in action and he returned with a bang as he scored our first goal in our 2-1 win over Goal50 United on Friday,” Abrahams told No Bones with Jones. ”He is a very talented player but had lots of bad habits, but I don’t blame him for that as it was down to the coaching and the environment he was in and maybe the reason also why his career was stagnating.
“From what I see is a very talented player who does not realise how good he is but is currently growing so much that I regard him as a very important piece in my puzzle. He has matured a lot and the fact that he is still an ‘Under’ makes him vital to the team,” Abrahams added.
Diadora (50 points) currently enjoys a three-point lead over the second-placed surprise package Trinitarians FC (47) who they play on 12th April. This could possibly be a decider depending on how the results play out leading up to this fixture. Don’t also write off third-placed Greenwood Athletic (43) and Cape Town City (41) who occupy the fourth position.
