Spare a thought for one of Stanturf United’s executive members Safwaan Arendse, who feels dumbstruck, disgusted and betrayed after being ”backstabbed” by one of his former coaches in Muneeb Maarman.
According to Arendse he wasn’t offended by the fact that Maarman – a former coaching HOD and senior player who coached at the club for the previous five seasons – left his club for ‘greener pastures’ at Santos. What does upset him though is the fact that “he is now busy with some dodgy and shady ‘recruitment’ behind the back of his former club.”
”Honestly, I’m dumbstruck, disgusted and I feel betrayed,” Arendse told No Bones with Jones. “It’s one thing to promise Sasol League football to the girls, but it’s another thing if you make up stories and spread lies to discredit our club,” Arendse added.
Arendse, also the Tournament Director of the annual signature event, the Tournament of Dreams, forwarded a WhatsApp text to our website and explained that Maarman had some nerve to contact the players’ parents telling them to request their children’s clearances because Stanturf is falling apart.
“He crippled me with four players already,” Arendse further revealed. “Now he wants my goalkeeper as well. There is the proof with the WhatsApp messages the players sent to me. What p*ssed me off the most is that he helped build the club to where we are today, you know and now he wants to destroy all of our hard work over the years, so, that hurt a bit, you know. Just goes to show that those closest to you hurt you the most,” Arendse concluded.
Meanwhile, Maarman hit back saying that he’ll deal with those spreading rumours about him.
“Who’s that again, Safwaan? He is a ‘moffie, dai ding,!” Maarman pointed out. “Firstly they must check where they get their information. I’m not interested. I was there (at the club), I left and that’s it.
“So, if they feel I’m poaching they can take me to wherever, but I’ll wait for them with my lawyer if they want to spread rumours,” Maarman concluded.
The Mitchells Plain LFA football boss Gilbert Kruger states there are rules and regulations that governs clubs and if the are contravened, the MPLFA will have to protect their member-club.
“You are only allowed to recruit no more than three players, if more, then they will have to approach us first. If this gentleman allegedly doing this is from Santos then I’m very surprised because they are a club that is familiar with how things should be done. If it is the case, then we will have to come to their (Stanturf’s) aid.
