Cape Town Spurs head coach Nasief Morris (pictured) is under no illusion of the challenge that lies ahead of him this season.
All eyes will definitely be on the former Bafana Bafana captain and his coaching staff to restore the pride, credibility and dignity of the mighty Spurs, who have fallen from grace in recent seasons.
Therefore, nothing but immediate promotion to the pro ranks is what will be expected from Morris, who was also part of the coaching staff when Spurs won promotion under Shaun Bartlett in 2023.
Spurs, who had a bye in the first round, unfortunately did not get the rub of the green when they were drawn against FC Battalion away in Paarl on Sunday after the Nedbank Cup draw was concluded by the province recently, and very swiftly as well.
The 44-year-old Mitchells Plain-born Morris did not shy away from making his feelings known ahead of their away fixture in this unforgiving Second Division league.
“Yes, a home draw would’ve been perfect,” Morris conceded to No Bones with Jones. “It’s going to be a tough game, considering the weather conditions. However, I believe our preparations have gone extremely well, and we are well-prepared for the challenge.
“This would also be part of preparations for us for the league, but it will be nice for the club and players to pass to the next round, God willing. But look, there’s going to be no easy game because as you know, everyone raises their game when they come up against a team like Spurs,” Morris added.
Morris also revealed that although he is satisfied with the balance of his squad, they are always open to new additions.
“Look, we can always add here and there if need be or when the next transfer window opens again,” Morris further explained. “But for now, I am happy and satisfied with what we have and I’m sure that everybody in the squad knows what is expected, but I’m not going to put unnecessary pressure on them, you know.
“The majority of the other players were at the club last season and I brought in a few as well. Then I have experienced campaigners like Nazier, Jarrod, Colin, Lincoln, Logan, Eyona and Jayden, who have been there before you know and they are fully aware what roles are expected from them this season,” Morris concluded.
