There are some unresolved issues regarding the ‘merger’ between Sea Point Swifts and the ABC Motsepe League newcomer Hope FC.
This is why the Swifts hierarchy is convening tonight in Bonteheuwel to get the facts from the club’s chairman, Wayne Weitz.
It’s believed that Weitz, who was also the main link between Swifts and Hope, will have to explain and clarify matters, as there are still many holes and what was communicated by Weitz, and what transpired, does not sit well with the club’s members.
Mind you, this is after Weitz, along with two executive members from Swifts, engaged with Hope FC owner Marlon Parker, to address the issue
According to the Swifts’ executive, they never gave their blessing to Weitz for the merger.
The million-dollar question that will have to be answered at the meeting is: Where is the letter of good standing from the club and LFA and what does it contain?
It’s also no secret that Swifts’ execs are not impressed by Weitz’s actions, hence he will have to explain himself and why he allegedly did things on his own accord.
Furthermore, it will be grossly unfair on Hope FC as well to be dragged into off-field politics, as this was probably not what they had in mind when they acquired the Second Division status of Oriented Birds from Knysna a couple of months ago.
Let’s hope that Weitz will come clean and provide the necessary proof and confirmation that vindicates his actions and puts the matter to rest once and for all.
