Saxons proved to be a Bridge too far for Ashford

Ashford Athletic head coach Curtley Daniels conceded Saxon Rovers was a bridge too far after they succumbed to a 0-1 loss at their Bridge home ground in Heathfield on Saturday afternoon.

Torez Markus was the difference when he tapped in the winner midway through the second half to hand the home side their first loss of their debut season in Safa Cape Town’s Third Division.

Daniels explained to No Bones with Jones; “I think we saw two good teams on display this afternoon. I think both teams were a bit cagey and when they got the one chance, they took it. Well-deserved to them,”

Saxons, who inherited a large crop of Vasco da Gama’s players, including their coaching staff, played the better football and never really looked in danger and was well deserved winners. T

According to Daniels, they have to dust themselves off and come back stronger as they travel to Elsbury Park to face Matroosfontein on Sunday.

“For us, it’s back to the drawing board and come back stronger tomorrow,” he further explained. “We can’t dwell too much on this. It’s always in-house for us as we believe in what we are doing and we believe in doing the right things. But sometimes we have to take a knock the hard way. Look, we’ll have to come back stronger,” Daniels concluded.

Saturday’s results

Antalyaspor JPM CT 4, Wanderers FC 1

Matroosfontein FC 3, Cape Town Spurs 4

Goal50 United 0, JL Zwane 1
