The goal fest in Safa Cape Town’s Third Division continued on Saturday with a whopping 26 goals banged in across four matches – surpassing Friday’s goal tally of 20 quite comfortably.
The biggest scoreline was recorded at Ikamva where Cape Town Spurs annihilated Goodhope FC by 12-2 which is also an unofficial record margin for the so-called ‘Graveyard’ league.
A Hatrick each by Bakhe Sopaqa and Inam Kewana contributed to Goodhope’s massacre in Parow.
Alas! if you thought that was impressive, listen to this…YMO FC’s goal poacher Rushan Abrahams has gone one better and made some history of his own in the process when he scored five second half goals to ensure they edged out Matroosfontein by 5-4 at the Downberg Road Sport Complex on Saturday afternoon.
What makes this achievement so remarkable, is the fact that YMO were down 0-4 at half-time and no one could have predicted what was going to play out in the second – not even Abrahams himself.
Let’s face it, this scoreline would have deflated any side or player but then again, ‘Rhoo’ as Abrahams is called, is just cut from a different cloth as he let loose in the second half to bag his second hat trick in a space of two weeks after he scored all three his sides goals in a 3-2 win over Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town.
Meanwhile, Saxon Rovers reclaimed the top spot – they temporarily lost following Premier United’s win on Friday evening – with a hardfought 2-1 victory over Trinitarians in Uitsig on Saturday thanks to goals from Robin Baadjies and Phillip Johnson.
Both Saxons and Premier are yet to lose a match which underlines their title credentials. The duo are also locked on 13 points each with the former at the summit with a superior goal difference.
The only two sides to fire blanks thus far were that of Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town and Silver Spurs who played out to a 0-0 stalemate at the Youngsfield Military Base.
In retrospect, Spurs would be the least worried with the no-goals-show as they still bagged a valuable away point to stretch their unbeaten run to two matches after the midweek win against Wanderers FC.
Cape Town City hosts Greenwood Athletic on Sunday at Malta Park which completes the weekend fixtures. One would expect that this encounter will deliver some goals and could add to the 26 goals scored thus far over the two days.
