It’s festive – but only alarm bells ringing for Junction after fourth loss in a row

The bells are ringing for Junction Rovers – and no, it’s not the jingle bells for the Festive season, but rather alarm bells of worry and concern!

This comes after Chrissando de Weber’s side suffered a fourth straight loss in so many games after they went down 2-3 to Seaside Spurs at the Ocean View Complex on Friday.

A brace by the visitor’s captain, Adeeb Triegaardt, was cancelled out by goals from Aphelele Nzwanga, Taden Kester, and Ashley Wyngaard, which handed Spurs only their second win in five matches to end 2025 on a positive note.

For Junction, on the other hand, it spells ominous signs and De Weber did not shy away from the fact that they are the architects of their own demise and only have themselves to blame for being sucker punched.

For example, last week his side squandered a 3-0 lead at their ‘Harry Gwala’ home venue only to lose 3-4 to Young Bafana after conceding “soft goals.”

These performances have left De Weber unimpressed citing his side’s lack of “discipline and focus” during matches are key factors which stifles them.

“Hey buddy, it’s like we are Father Christmas as we are giving away easy goals, and that is what saddens me,” De Weber stated to No Bones with Jones. “We have to work so hard to score goals, but we are giving away soft goals on the other hand.

“Last week it was the same against Young Bafana when we were 3-0 up, but we lost 3-4. And last night the same happened when the score was 2-2, which I would have been satisfied with at the end. A mistake by our keeper gifted a soft goal to them and it cost us valuable away points, you know,” he added.

De Weber has also been a coach who looks for the positives during times of adversity. The Junction mentor reckons that on the bright side, they can do some much-needed introspection during the Festive break to rectify matters and to find their mojo again.

“We’ll have to regroup and strategize as you don’t want losing to become a habit, and that is exactly what I told the boys, you know,” he further explained. “I think we lack focus and discipline to see out of our matches that we are in full control of, you know. But look, there is a long way to go and I’m positive we’ll turn the corner in the new year,” De Weber concluded.
